The Tornadoes, in association with the Dapto Leagues Club ans MasoniCare, recently joined to raise funds for TheKidzWish Foundation to send 160 special children to this year's KidzWish Christmas Party, an extraordinary event for 3,000 Special Children, at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong NSW next November.
The Tornadoes celebrated their 50th Anniversary at Dapto Leagues Club (see earlier Blog) in August where they entertained 500 fans from start to finish. All entertainers on the night performed for free with all proceeds from the event directed to the KidzWish Foundation to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in the Illawarra - the home of the Tornadoes.
The MasoniCare generously contributed $2,000 to KidsWish on the night in recognition of the marvellous effort by the Tornadoes and Dapto Leagues Club.
Dapto Leagues Club's Function Manager, Bronwyn Newman, said " the Tornadoes 50th Anniversary was a sold out event. It was a great night for everyone with the fabulous Tornadoes bringing the house down and leaving no room on the dance floor".
The night was complemented with video presentations of the Tornadoes' early years and of the most recent KidzWish Christmas Party which attracted 3,000 special children.
Long serving bass player of the Tornadoes, Harry Mitchell, said "the Tornadoes are proud to have supported a local charity like the KidzWish Foundation. Every dollar counts when it comes to helping the special children of our region. We had raffles, auctions and great live music. Phil Haworth of Haworth's Guitars at Albion Park donated a guitar for the auction. Everyone dug deep and helped out as much as they could".
KidzWish CEO Chris Beaven said "the commitment from the Tornadoes and Dapto Leagues Club has been amazing. Everyone worked hard to ensure the night was the success it was. Thankyou to all businesses who donated funds and raffle prizes and also to everyone who donated money to the KidzWish Foundation. All funds raised will enable 160 special children to attend this year's KidzWish Christmas Party."
All in all a great and special effort. Congratulations to everyone associated with that special event.
