Johnny Devlin Awarded Civic Reception
Wanganui's celebrity mayor, Michael Laws, presented Johnny Devlin with the Key to the City at a spectacular award ceremony in the heart of Wanganui, New Zealand. The event attracted the biggest crowd to the City in 10 years and was an occasion that will be long remembered. Tornadoes Perform at ABC Radio 97.3 (Illawarra) 50th Birthday Celebrations
The Illawarra's ABC celebrated its 50th year of regional broadcasting at a special function held at the Wollongong City Gallery. The ABC commenced it's local presence in 1959 when the first programmes were aired on 2WN. The Tornadoes featured with the Eros Big Band and guests were encouraged to dress typifying the era 1959-1969. The celebration was a night of dance with the Tornadoes playing the hits of the era to 5 decades of fans. A highlight of the evening was the Statewide broadcast of the nightly evening quiz program "Norman" with the ready made live audience at the venue.
Johnny and the Tornies celebrate New Years Eve at Dapto
Fans began to fill the auditorium of the Dapto Citizens' Bowling Club at 4pm to guarantee a seat for what proved to be a sell-out show featuring Johnny and the Tornadoes. Mosgiel, NZ registers 5.7 earthquake during Tornadoe alert
Friday 5th February will go down in southern New Zealand geographic history as the night a 5.7 magnitude tremor rumbled the region while, at the same time in the town of Mosgiel (south of Dunedin), a Tornadoe was rocking the town with NZ's original King of Rock and Roll, Johnny Devlin. A packed house at the Mosgiel RSA Club enjoyed a night of nights with fabulous nostalgia from the past 5 decades (see Testimonial from Mosgiel RSA management).
Rock and Roll revival night at Christchurch's Cashmere Club
Christchurch's Avon City Rock and Roll Revival Club hosted Johnny and the Tornadoes in early February at the Cashmere Club. The auditorium featured bright rock and roll decorations and memorabillia and the Tornadoes brought the crowd together as they started the show with the Duanne Eddy classic, Rebel Rouser. Johnny Devlin was on fire with two spectacular sets, the dance floor packed and wanting more, more, more. Special thanks to all who helped make the night a huge success.
2010 - Tornadoes 50th Year Since Formation of the Band - Huge Celebration Planned
In 1960, two close friends who had an early passion for music, became the founding members of the Tornadoes. Now, almost 50 years later, Fred Marsh and Dave Goodger continue to perform in what is regarded as the world's longest continual performing band having played to generations of fans over those five decades. With their close mates Wayne, Paul, Rainer and Harry, plans are already underway to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary around early August 2010. Watch this space as the event takes shape.............. !
